The folk culture of the city of Pernambuco is Renata Rosa’s inspiration. Born in Sao Paulo, she uses her freshness and energy, her voice, her rabeca violin and percussions to explore coco samba (an Afro-Amerindian question-answer song, close to the repentista form), maracatu (based on old warrior dances) and the rural forro sung by the cane cutters. Rosa uses her voice like a musical instrument that she enriches through contact with other world traditions. Most recently, she has been working on a new piece with the Indians of Pernambuco that will be premiered at Flagey.
