The Arditti Quartet has an international reputation which it owes to the exceptional quality of its performances of contemporary music.
Since it was founded in 1974 by the first violin, Irvine Arditti, several hundred string quartets have been dedicated to it. The composers who have entrusted the quartet with the first performance of their works are as diverse as they are numerous, and many of these works which are now acknowledged to be major works of the contemporary repertoire.
