Michael Curtiz – to whom we dedicated a Flagey season in 2012 – was one of the great directors of the golden age of Hollywood. His filmography is unparalleled, his technical mastery allowing him to excel in all genres.

The film club organisers coincided in choosing two major works by this director of Hungarian origin: the immortal Casablanca with Bogey and Bergman, and Mildred Pierce with Joan Crawford poignant in this blend of melodrama and film noir. Gangsters and hard-boiled crime are the order of the day, with Bugsy and Prizzi’s Honor, and Chabrol’s Le Boucher.
