Mitsuko Uchida, piano

A very special guest at Flagey: Mitsuko Uchida makes her debut! Since the late 1960s, the Japanese-British pianist has been regarded worldwide as one of the foremost interpreters of the classical repertoire. At Flagey, she lives up to this reputation with a programme that weaves together the First and Second Viennese Schools. Through Haydn’s Variations in F minor, Mozart’s Rondo in A minor, and Schubert’s Piano Sonata No. 20 in A major, Uchida explores the expressive richness of three great classical composers. Alongside these works, she places Arnold Schoenberg’s 6 Kleine Klavierstücke, in which music retreats into miniatures of utmost concentration. In doing so, Uchida reveals how the search for musical renewal and emotional depth connects these different generations of Viennese composers.
