With the great art edification from his grandfather, Qi Gong sets his life time goal of being a painter at his very young age. When he is at the age of 18, he becomes Master Xinyu Pu’s private student and studies very hard. Then he joins Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Research Association. Over the age of 20, he meets his savior Yuan Chen – Headmaster of Beijing Normal University –who introduces him the Chinese language teaching job. Unfortunately, he gets dismissed by Dean Zhang due to his lack of educational degree being discovered. However, Headmaster Yuan Chen helps him out once more at his most difficult time by managing to get him an assistant teaching job back to Beijing Normal University where turns out to be his life time career.

During the Culture Revolution period of time, one of the Red Guards – Yuchen Liu is a calligraphy chaser. But there is no way to learn directly from Qi Gong face to face at that special period. Thus, the only one way to learn calligraphy is to secretly collect Qi Gong’s work by tearing his work down from the public information board. And then he will copy Qi Gong’s work at home and practice. As time goes by, Liu finally manages to meet and learn from Qi Gong and they then develop life time friendship.

Reform and Opening-up launches, Qi Gong turns out to be a calligraphy master. Numerous people come to him asking for his calligraphy and he never turns people down while keep writing and serving the public by organizing his fortune from his work auction a Study Scholarship Fund with Beijing Normal University for all the young generation in need.

启功爱少年时代接受祖父的艺术熏陶，励志成为一个画家，成年后拜书画大师溥心畬为师潜心学习，加入中华书画学研究会。二十多岁，便被辅仁大学校长陈垣提携，介绍进入辅仁中学教国文，却因为学历不够被张院长开除。在启功走投无路之际。陈垣校长伸出援手，破格让他到辅仁大学当助教，启功终以教育作为其终身奋斗的事业。

文革期间，红卫兵青年刘雨辰酷爱书法，然而在那个疯狂的年代，无法直接向启功讨教，唯有偷偷撕下启功写的大字报，暗地描摹启功的字学习书法。后来，刘雨辰鼓足勇气来到启功家讨教，两人成了忘年交。

改革开放，启功成了有名的书法大师，求字的人络绎不绝，他笔耕不辍，继续为社会大众服务，并将自己书画作品举行义卖，将所得的资金，成立了励耘奖学金，继续恩泽下一代的年轻人。
