Flagey Piano Days: closing concert | The Great War
1914. The First World War has broken out and will soon drag all of Europe, Russia and the United States into an insane and bloody conflict that is destined to redraw the map of the continent once and for all.
2014. A hundred years later, the Great War will be remembered around the world. The Flemish Radio Choir is marking the occasion with heart-warming music by English composers who experienced the war from near or far, as well as with war songs: some patriotic, others romantic or consoling. Ravel’s ‘Le Tombeau de Couperin’, of which each movement is dedicated to a friend who died in WWI, is the leitmotif throughout this moving programme.
