Victor Julien-Laferrière and Lucas Debargue, two outstanding talents from France, perform together for the first time – at the invitation of Flagey! Debargue, laureate of the 15th International Tchaikovsky Competition, received widespread acclaim in 2024 for his solo album devoted to the music of Gabriel Fauré. His fascination with Fauré continues in this programme alongside Julien-Laferrière, winner of the 2017 Queen Elisabeth Competition. Together, they perform masterpieces for cello and piano by Gabriel Fauré, Louis Vierne and Nadia Boulanger, three French composers who shaped the transition from Romanticism to Impressionism around 1900. Edvard Grieg adds a Nordic touch of Romanticism, inspired by the power and mystery of nature. Together, they paint a richly textured soundscape of a world in transition.
