Marcel Johannes Kits & Sten Heinoja

Cellist Marcel Johannes Kits, winner of the George Enescu Competition and third prize laureate at the 2022 Queen Elisabeth Competition, forms a close duo with pianist Sten Heinoja. Together, they present a programme centered on two pillars of Eastern European music: Arvo Pärt and Alfred Schnittke, who were not only kindred spirits but also close friends. Pärt’s meditative tintinnabuli style contrasts with Schnittke’s polystylistic richness, yet both composers shared an intense spiritual quest. The programme also features works by Galina Grigorjeva and Heino Eller, Pärt’s influential teacher. A compelling and layered journey through the diversity and depth of Baltic chamber music.
