The London pianist and composer Elliot Galvin presents with The Ruin his most personal album to date. Recorded with musicians such as Ruth Goller, Seb Rochford and the Ligeti String Quartet, Galvin weaves improvisations on his children’s piano with modular synth sounds, drum machines and ethereal vocals into a captivating sonic cycle. “This album is a self-portrait,” he says, “made from the ruins of the past, both collective and personal.” Galvin is known from the groundbreaking jazz quartet Dinosaur (Mercury-nominated) and has collaborated with, among others, Shabaka Hutchings and Emma-Jean Thackray.
