La Monnaie Symphony Orchestra & Antonello Manacorda
Bella mia fiamma
Scale heavenly heights under the leadership of a young star conductor
‘Mozart and Beethoven reach to heaven – Schubert comes from there.’ Mozart’s pared-down, emotionally charged Classicism meets Schubert’s classically structured early Romanticism. The young conductor Antonello Manacorda, a rising star, heads the La Monnaie orchestra in Schubert’s Third and Sixth Symphonies, as we move towards the close of the complete cycle of Schubert symphonies launched in 2015. This heavenly programme is rounded off with Mozart’s Overture to the rarely performed comic ‘Singspiel’ Der Schauspieldirektor and three of his most enchanting concert arias, to which the ethereal voice of Simona Šaturová, already well known at La Monnaie for her Mozart and Verdi performances, will certainly add a celestial touch. How can anything go wrong when one takes Mozart as one’s guide: ‘Tu che mi parli al core, guida i miei passi, amore…’? (‘You, who speak to my heart, guide my steps, Love’).
