Christophe Chassol

Flagey Piano Days

Big Sun, Christophe Chassol's radiant fourth album closes his ultrascores trilogy (ultrascore is Chassol's own private way of tuning reality), which began in New Orleans with Nola Chérie (2011) and went on with Indiamore in India (2013). In March 2014, Chassol traveled back to Martinique, where his family originates from. It is there that he and his crew filmed and recorded moments from everyday life. Those fragments later became the basis for Big Sun. Chassol, a real-life Captain Nemo on his Fender Rhodes electric piano, takes us on a very original trip to his ancestors’ land. Through his ‘sonar”, we perceive the reality of this big and mysterious island that lives within him and, thanks to his music, within us as well.
