Machtelinckx, Badenhorst, Jensson, Wouters

JAZZ#FORUM

In 2012, guitarist / composer Ruben Machtelinckx recorded his debut album, Faerge, in Copenhagen, with the help of guitarists Ruben Machtelinckx and Hilmar Jensson, Joachim Badenhorst on reeds and Nathan Wouters on double bass. This atypical formation produces a distinctive and soothing sound. Strong melodies and earthy progressions are at the basis of their compositions, which often take on a melancholic undertone. The music consists of atmospheric, warm, poetic sounds, and allows the individuality of each musician to come forward. The emphasis is on sound texture and musical homogeneity which -among other things- lead the musicians to thinking more like composers than soloists. The album was immediately heralded “best Belgian jazz release of the year” by Knack. In 2014, the musicians score another bull’s-eye with their second album: Flock.
