1819 saw one of the happiest moments in Franz Schubert's life. During a journey through Austria with his good friend and opera singer Johann Michael Vogl, the 22-year-old Schubert discovered the mountains and lakes about which he loved to write songs. During their journey, they stayed in the idyllic town of Steyr on the River Enns, where he composed - for a circle of admirers - his joyful Piano Quintet in A major, the work that later became world-famous as the 'Trout Quintet'.
