For Philippe Herreweghe and Collegium Vocale Gent, Bach has been a faithful companion for decades. As pioneers of historically informed performance, they rank among the world’s foremost interpreters of his music. In the run-up to the festive season, they bring Bach’s Christmas Oratorio to Flagey, a cycle of six cantatas composed for the period between Christmas and Epiphany. This concert features four of the six cantatas, tracing the story from the birth of Christ to the adoration of the Magi. In the darkest days of the year, Collegium Vocale Gent lets this music shine in all its richness, balancing jubilant choral movements with moments of wonder and quiet contemplation.
