He remains a phenomenon: the pianist Arcadi Volodos. Whenever he takes on new repertoire, it is an event not to be missed. After years of celebrated performances and recordings of Liszt, Brahms, Mompou, and Schubert, he now turns for the first time to the subtle, refined universe of Frédéric Chopin. For his fifth recital at Flagey, Volodos combines Schubert’s serene Piano Sonata No. 18 with Chopin’s dreamy nocturnes, dancing mazurkas, and the famous Second Sonata with its iconic “Marche Funèbre”. Volodos’ playing listens, breathes, and allows silences to speak, giving meaning to every detail. A unique opportunity to experience this “keyboard poet beyond compare” (The Independent).
