Balimaya Trio

A true prodigy of the kamélé n’goni, the charismatic Aboubakar Traoré, together with the Balimaya Trio, forges a vibrant bridge between West Africa and Europe. As the heir to the ancestral legacy of the Mandinka griots, Aboubakar breathes new life into this repertoire, drawing on his encounters and contemporary influences. With songs in Dioula (a West African Mandinka language), spellbinding rhythms and contemporary sounds, his music becomes a journey in every moment and a living celebration of cultural transmission. Alongside his musicians, who are also involved in the composition, he revitalises tradition with boldness and sensitivity.

Acclaimed following the success of the 2019 album *Tama Tama*, which was nominated for the Octaves de la Musique in Belgium, the trio once again pushes the boundaries of West African music with *Sababu*. Topping the World Music Charts Europe and reaching number 4 on the Transglobal World Music Chart, this new project blends hypnotic rhythms and profound ballads, striking a balance between power and delicacy. Examining the social and political realities of his country and the world, Aboubakar’s heartfelt cries resonate as calls for justice, love and freedom, where the memory of the elders engages with the present to touch the hearts of today’s young people.
