In Broken English, the fictional Ministry of Not Forgetting reconstructs the life of singer Marianne Faithfull. Under the guidance of The Overseer (Tilda Swinton), Faithfull is invited by The Record Keeper (George MacKay) to look back on the decades in which she grew from a teenage idol into a pop star, right through the shadow of men such as Bob Dylan and Mick Jagger.
Directors Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard bring Faithfull’s life story to the screen in an innovative and unvarnished way. In doing so, they create a confrontational portrait of ageing and artistic recognition, supported by contributions from Courtney Love, Suki Waterhouse and Nick Cave.
