Do we still need to introduce Uxía Martínez Botana? This internationally acclaimed double bassist has performed with ensembles such as the Kremerata Baltica, under the direction of Gidon Kremer, and the Brussels Philharmonic. She now returns to Flagey with Mendelssohn X Files, her new album where the double bass surprisingly takes the lead role in the string quartet. She selected music that reflects key moments from Mendelssohn’s life — from the sorrow of his sister’s death in his final string quartet to the calm Adagio composed during a joyful time.
