Mozart: Requiem

At a festival on the theme of the city of Vienna, Mozart of course deserves pride of place. His dramatic Requiem was written and premiered in Vienna, and is one of his most beloved works – even if not all of it is by his own hand. At Mozart’s premature death, the Requiem was still unfinished, and it was his friend and student Franz Xaver Süssmayr who completed it.

The history of the work is fairly murky: be that as it may, it is a breath-taking masterpiece that centuries later can still touch the very essence of our souls.
