Dmitry Shishkin, piano

Pianist Dmitry Shishkin proves that virtuosity and musical refinement can go perfectly hand in hand. Since winning First Prize at the Geneva International Competition in 2018 and Second Prize at the International Tchaikovsky Competition in 2019, he has been acclaimed for his approach to music, at once flamboyant and deeply committed. His elegant command of the piano is fully revealed in this programme devoted to Russian ballet music. With Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet, in the composer’s own transcription, and Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker in Mikhail Pletnev’s virtuosic arrangement, Shishkin brings to life music in which technical finesse and theatrical imagination meet. With dancing lightness and captivating virtuosity, he makes the piano sound like a full orchestra.
