In an impeccable casting coup, David Bowie plays an alien. Mustering Earth's resources in a bid to save his home planet, he gets blindsided by romance, alcohol and the ruthlessness of the US government. Roeg serves up a dazzling cinematic UFO incorporating wrinkles in time, slimy sex and Stomu Yamashta's otherworldly music.
