Shanti ! Shanti !, VoiXlà: Concert

A unique double concert for young and old alike at Flagey with two special singing groups from our very own soil: Shanti! Shanti! (Lucy Grauman conducting) and VoiXlà (Olivier Thomas conducting). On the programme are new songs and choral pieces by Thomas Smetryns & Olivier Thomas. Shanti! Shanti! is a group of singing kids from Brussels and Antwerp with an ear for crazy voices, weird languages and colourful sounds. Founded within Flanders Festival Brussels and MET X, this choir from Brussels and Antwerp focuses extra attention on the more and the less privileged, on a variety of native languages and on a wide range of cultural backgrounds. They only sing music that has been written especially for them. The word 'choir' falls short for VoiXlà, too. These thirteen singers/musicians from Brussels offer a wilful and daring repertoire, full vocal or as a kind of mini-orchestra. Moreover, they will gladly colour outside the lines with outrageous onomatopoeias and audacious timbres. So expand your senses and expect a world language bursting with rhythm and expressive melodies.
