School choirs
In Brussels, singing is not systematically part of the primary school curriculum. That is why three cultural organizations involved in choral singing joined forces to create the FARESI network, a combination of the names of the three associations: Flagey Academy, ReMuA, and Singing Molenbeek.
Professional choir directors and music educators lead children’s choirs within different primary schools, during class time, lunch breaks, or after school, introducing young participants to the art of choral singing. Participation is open to all children aged 6 to 12, based on motivation and a certain level of commitment.
At the start of the 2025 school year, these school choirs brought together more than 1,670 children in 25 primary schools across the city.
Once a year, FARESI network choristers come together at Flagey for a major day of singing and sharing. At the end of this day, all the children perform together on stage, accompanied by an orchestra.
Children who discover a passion for singing can go further! Each summer, those who wish to do so are invited to audition to join the Flagey Academy choir.
