Mummies and pterodactyls are among the unusual interlopers in this brilliant fantasy film which is drenched in humour and adventure. The backdrop is Paris at the turn of the 20th century, which has been immaculately recreated as per Tardi’s drawings. Besson is always at his best when fascinated by shameless heroines.
