Cinematek 75 : Big Cities in the Twenties

Ciné-concert

On 25 November, the Brussels Jazz Orchestra will rock Flagey Studio 4! Recent Oscar winners for their contribution to the soundtrack of The Artist, they will perform original compositions to accompany silent films from the 1920s. The city symphony was a flourishing avant-garde documentary genre of the 20s. Its aim: to sketch out in film a poetic portrait of a city or neighbourhood to the “rhythm” of everyday life. Some of the classics of this genre have inspired Frank Vaganée, Bert Joris et Gyuri Spies from the Brussels Jazz Orchestra to compose an accompanying score. Their music lends the films, if not a different interpretation, at least new colour.
