Jean-Claude Vanden Eynden
Since winning third prize at the Queen Elisabeth Competition in 1964, Jean-Claude Vanden Eynden has been a key figure in the Belgian piano scene. His recent Franck recording was praised for featuring the rarely heard transcriptions by pianist and composer Blanche Selva. “It is the spiritual dimension, the mystical side that gives Franck’s music its power,” he says. At Flagey, he performs Franck’s impressive Chorale No. 3 in Selva’s transcription – a work where grandeur and intimacy alternate – alongside Schubert’s Sonata in A major, D 959, one of his most monumental and moving piano works.
