Celebrating Wilfried Westerlinck

In 2025, composer Wilfried Westerlinck will celebrate his 80th birthday, marked by a Piknik concert of chamber music. The Izumi Piano Duo, along with musicians from the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, will perform highlights from his repertoire, including the premiere of his brand-new work Melopee. Westerlinck is known for his distinctive style: while he occasionally employs modern techniques such as serialism and aleatory, his music remains far removed from the radical avant-garde of his contemporaries. His work exudes lyricism, clarity, and a deep-rooted connection to the 19th and early 20th centuries. A special tribute to a Belgian composer who sees music as pure expression.
