Without a word, Artavazd Pelechian traces the history of space discovery through a montage of Soviet and American astronauts, and aviation pioneers. The stressful countdown to takeoff is superimposed on the euphoria of celebrating human victory over gravity. The failures as well as the successes are shown in no particular order. Pelechian chooses cinematic imagery over speech where images are the only tool to tell the story. A complex piece of art that is both a celebration, a cautionary tale with a critical look at human pretentiousness.
