Blue Moon
Richard Linklater
In Blue Moon, Linklater captures one night in 1943, during the opening night of the musical Oklahoma!, in which the brilliant but tormented songwriter Lorenz Hart (Ethan Hawke) is confronted with his past, his loss and the success of his former partner. Intimately filmed and carried by impressive performances from Ethan Hawke, Margaret Qualley, Andrew Scott and Bobby Cannavale, the film paints a melancholic portrait of a man who continues to struggle with his own legend. Filmed in just fifteen days, with an emphasis on dialogue and acting, Blue Moon feels like an intimate play in which every silence takes on meaning.
