When Words Sing and Notes Speak
Children’s Choir (Maîtrise of the Opéra national du Rhin)
The Children’s Choir of the Petits Chanteurs de Strasbourg – Maîtrise of the Opéra national du Rhin invites you on a musical journey from the 19th century to the present day, where composers create an uninterrupted dialogue between poetry and music.
Programme
- Flagey Academy : excerpts from Songs of Sanctuary by Karls Jenkins;
- Our Gift for You by Jerry Estes, where music becomes an offering.
- Chansons by Claude Arrieu: five short pieces exploring the surrealist world of poems by Philippe Soupault.
- Excerpts from Petites Voix by Francis Poulenc, set to texts by Madeleine Ley, capturing the freshness and wisdom of childhood.
- Les berceaux by Gabriel Fauré, based on Le long du quai les grands vaisseaux by Sully Prudhomme, blending lullaby and barcarolle to evoke absence and longing.
- Beloo Baleerie, Scottish Folk Song (arr. By Ruth Elaine Schram);
- As a final echo, Yksi, kaksi, kolma Neljä : Le monde entier rugit by Marie-Claire Saindon weaves a quodlibet between a traditional Finnish song and a poem by Élise Gauthier.
A century and a half of musical creation revealing the intimate alchemy between the written word and musical counterpoint, where every note extends the breath of the poetry.
