When Words Sing and Notes Speak

Children’s Choir (Maîtrise of the Opéra national du Rhin)

The Children’s Choir of the Petits Chanteurs de Strasbourg – Maîtrise of the Opéra national du Rhin invites you on a musical journey from the 19th century to the present day, where composers create an uninterrupted dialogue between poetry and music.

Programme

  • Our Gift for You by Jerry Estes, where music becomes an offering.
  • Chansons by Claude Arrieu: five short pieces exploring the surrealist world of poems by Philippe Soupault.
  • Excerpts from Petites Voix by Francis Poulenc, set to texts by Madeleine Ley, capturing the freshness and wisdom of childhood.
  • Les berceaux by Gabriel Fauré, based on Le long du quai les grands vaisseaux by Sully Prudhomme, blending lullaby and barcarolle to evoke absence and longing.
  • Quand l’alouette a chanté by Isabelle Aboulker, set to a poem by Victor Hugo, a powerful hymn to peace.
  • As a final echo, Yksi, kaksi, kolma Neljä : Le monde entier rugit by Marie-Claire Saindon weaves a quodlibet between a traditional Finnish song and a poem by Élise Gauthier.

A century and a half of musical creation revealing the intimate alchemy between the written word and musical counterpoint, where every note extends the breath of the poetry.

The programme will also feature musical contributions from the Flagey Academy.
