Ictus: Leonie Strecker / Pak Yan Lau / Anita Cappuccinelli

Interference

Improvised music is necessarily spontaneous — yet it is shaped by personal experience, reflection, experiment, and aesthetic choices.

Over the years, Pak Yan Lau has built a distinct sound world with prepared pianos, toy pianos, synths, and electronics. Together with percussionist Anita Cappuccinelli (Ictus, TUUM), she explores how these sounds meet, shift, and reshape each other.

With an open, searching approach they follow what emerges, without a fixed path. The music unfolds in real time, constantly evolving.

This improvisation is framed by two works by Leonie Strecker: Interference (with Dirk Descheemaeker on bass clarinet) and chroma accuracy. She plays with presence and absence, with layers that overlap and drift apart. In chroma accuracy, rhythm comes forward; in Interference, the space between sounds takes the lead.
