Festival Anima : Aloïs Nebel

Competition

Aloïs Nebel is a silent loner working in a small border town rail station. The country is Czechoslovakia, the year is 1989, and the pro-Soviet regime is about to crumble. But the event holds little interest for this man who seems to be haunted by a story from a more distant past.

Adapted from a trilogy of comic book stories by Jaroslav Rudiš and Jaromír 99 published in 2003, Aloïs Nebel sparked great interest this autumn in Prague. Ari Forman (Waltz With Bashir), Thomas Ott and Charles Burns all spring to mind as this film too is a rare and skillful example of the rotoscope technique.
