Mateo, 16 years-old, lives with his mother and his younger brother in the small village of Santa Ana del Valle in southern Mexico. The village life is conditioned by the absent men who work in the USA. At church, proud mothers show to each other pictures that their sons have sent from California, while anxious wives are longing for calls or letters from their husbands who might have ended up in jail. It is a story about the value of family, brotherly love and of a hopeful young man’s struggle for a better life. It is also the story of a small Mexican village where daily life is ruled by the many ties to the America.
