My Friend Victoria

My Friend Victoria, adapted from Doris Lessing’s book Victoria and the Staveneys, tells the story of a young black French girl, from her humble beginnings to her relationship with the son of a “respectable family”. Jean Paul Civeryac’s adaptation, told in the first person, has received favourable reviews from the new French cinema sector. With this his eighth film (a Belgian co-production), Civeryac trains his lens delicately, eschewing both controversy and utopian ideals , on the bridges which are built across the social and cultural divides in our urban societies.
