Zygomatik featuring Cezariusz Gadzina

The band Zygomatik, run by bass player Piet Verbist (generally known to the public as the bassist of the Jef Neve Trio), is his first project as a leader and composer. Through the years he has participated in many different projects playing music from rock and soul over straight jazz to world music (tango, flamenco, north African music) and free improvisation. His first album was very well received, so here we are, impatiently waiting for his second release.

Herman Pardon, Piet’s longtime companion on many occasions was his first choice on drums. His light touch and deep groove serve the band enormously, and pushes the dynamics to an extended level. The young and bright piano talent of Bram Weijters completes the rhythm section. Both his innovative sound on the Fender Rhodes and his tight rhythmic feel make the trio a strong unit. And his taste for space and lyricism during comping as well as in his solo’s – together with the use of saxophone – bring a psychedelic flavor to the music, exactly what Piet was looking for.
