Eve Beuvens Heptatomic

Young Belgian Jazz : Album releases

When she was given a "carte blanche" at the Gaume Jazz Festival in 2013, pianist Eve Beuvens decided to step away from the intimate formats that she normally enjoys. She surrounded herself with six musicians to create Heptatomic, a solid group of young talents and confirmed players. 2 years later, the septet has just released its first album of music somewhere between lyricism and a form of free jazz.

Since releasing her first album, Noordzee, in 2008, Eve Beuvens has been seeking out a certain harmony of contrasts through music that is sincere and in increasingly rich colours.

The repertoire was entirely written by Beuvens specifically for the project. It reveals the various sides of her musical personality, proving that lyricism and energy are not incompatible. Her delicate, refined compositions also leave room for slices of almost free-like frenzy led by her sparring partners. The piano playing, determined yet supple, is admirably accompanied by the new ‘dream team’ that creates refreshing, intelligent and contemporary jazz with energy that is… atomic!
