Ambrose Akinmusire Quartet

Ambrose Akinmusire, “a thrilling young trumpeter and astute bandleader [with a] unique spark in his playing” (The New Yorker), is one of the American rising stars. He gained the esteem of musicians like Steve Coleman, Joshua Redman and Michel Portal.

In 2007 Akinmusire won the Carmine Caruso International Jazz Trumpet Solo Competition and the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition. A year later he released his debut solo album, Prelude to Cora, on Fresh Sound New Talent. In 2011 Akinmusire returned with his sophomore album, When the Heart Emerges Glistening, on the legendary Blue Note Records. In March of 2014, he released his second Blue Note album, The Imagined Savior Is Easier to Paint.

For Ambrose Akinmusire, making music is celebrating the beauty that is life. What to expect: contemporary jazz, but without forgetting the heritage of his predecessors. Recently, he won the Paul Acket Award 2014 and the Doris Duke Impact Award (2015).
