The Spirit of the Italian Madrigal in Europe
Concerts by the Huelgas Ensemble are always one-of-a-kind experiences animated by a contagious fervour. For many years now, Paul Van Nevel has been exploring the madrigal repertoire, a poetico-musical polyphonic form that is a redoubtable challenge for singers. In this concert, they will be singing works by Adrian Willaert, Jacques Arcadelt and Cipriano de Rore, three northern European composers who gave a new impulse to the typically Italian genre. Their influence on future generations was lasting.
