Bram Stoker’s story of Dracula, the count from the dead, has been the subject of many a film and adaptation over the years. ‘Nosferatu, eine Symphonie des Grauens’ (Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horrors) was the first film version of the story, shot during the interwar years in Germany.

When director Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau decided in 1922 to film Stoker’s novel without the author’s consent, he could not have imagined that the whole fuss and lawsuit about the film rights would lend it cult status.
