Modris
Brussels Film Festival | Panorama Outsiders
Modris is a seventeen-year-old who has already developed a debilitating addiction to slot machines. His obsession fuels an ongoing conflict with his mother, who can't stop reminding Modris that his father is incarcerated. Kursietis set out to capture this case of a young man perched on the brink of throwing his life away. The turning point comes one evening when Modris pinches his mom’s electric heater, pawning it for a few coins he intends to use playing the slots. This time, Modris’ mother calls the cops, hoping it will teach him a lesson.Sentenced to two years of probation, Modris sets his mind on a single goal: finding his long-absent father, a man about whom he knows nothing. Modris is a tough coming-of-age film from an emerging director with a tremendous command of craft.
