Nadezhda teaches English in the high school of a small Bulgarian town. When a theft has happened in her class, she tries to find the culprit and wants to use this event to teach a lesson about right and wrong to her students. But her convictions are going to be jeopardised when a bailiff notifies her that the bank is about to seize her house and will be put on auction because of overdue mortgage payments. How far will she go in violating the principles she tries to instruct to her class? The Lesson is both an intriguing and disturbing movie, thanks to the extreme realism of the proufoundly human portrait of its protagonist.
