Bent Hamer shifts his focus to Marie, workaholic scientist whose life is rigorously controlled she devotes her life to measurements. The pride of the institute where she works is a perfect kilogram weight, a model for all measurements in the country, which Marie is supposed to take to a conference in France. When a family emergency jolts Marie even further out of her element, she finds herself introduced to whole new worlds creating a gradual emotional awakening. While in Paris, she begins to measure her own feelings of love, grief and disappoint on the scales of human emotion.
