Dora or the Sexual Neuroses of our Parents

Brussels Film Festival | Competition

When a mother decides to stop the treatment that has been given to her mentally disabled daughter for 18 years, Dora suddenly wakes up from a deep sleep. She gradually discovers her body, her sensualtiy and her sexuality. Her parents, who were used to a passive child, are now lost in a sudden and rough awakening. Especially when Dora meets a man and falls in love. The parents try to put an end to this situation, but it gets completetly out of their hands the moment their daughter gets pregnant. This courageous, sensitive and powerful adaptation of the play by Lukas Bärfuss is a drama addressing the subject of letting go and is told through Dora’s eyes . A tender look that challenges our own perceptions of reality and makes us witness the difficulty of being a mother.
