A musical journey back the Berlin Cabaret of the 30ies with pianist Mathias Coppens and Bart Van Reyn.
At the beginning of the 20th century, Berlin was the home of the cabaret: clubs sprang up like mushrooms and competed with each other for the greatest stars and loveliest divas. Composers such as Mischa Spoliansky and Friedrich Holländer wrote challenging songs specially for the dark and smoky bars with only a piano for accompaniment. But the threat of World War I hung in the air, and the deep pain and anguish at what would inevitably follow is almost tangible in the Lieder of Max Reger and Gustav Mahler.
