Michel Bisceglia Trio

Blue Bird is based on the somewhat forgotten theater piece L'oiseau bleu (1908) by Maurice Maeterlinck, to this day the only Belgian winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature. The story describes the quest of woodcutter’s children Tyltyl and Mytyl who, led by the Light, try to track down the blue bird of happiness and solve the puzzle of existence.

From the beginning, pianist and composer Michel Bisceglia was involved in the making of the movie Blue Bird by director Gust Van den Berghe, for which he composed two music pieces. Blue Bird was very well received by the press and selected for the ‘Quinzaine des Réalisateurs’ 2011 of the Cannes Film festival.

While composing, Michel Bisceglia immediately felt that the specific pace and unconventional shots of Blue Bird left much space for a certain amount of musical freedom. This cine-concert is a rare opportunity for the composer to experiment with the film as a means to support his music, and not the other way around.

Michel Bisceglia composed film scores for movies such as Marina (Stijn Coninx), Valentino (Remy van Heugten) and Au Nom Du Fils (Vincent Lad), and is well-known for his work with artists such as Viktor Lazlo, Ozark Henry and Brian Molko. At the 2014 World Soundtrack Awards, he was granted the Public Choice Award for his work with the film Marina.
