Russk’Off : Live Talk - André Lischke, musicologist

Music Chapel Festival

Russk’Off : Concert introduction by André Lischke, musicologist

André Lischke enlightens us on the history of the Russian piano school at the turn of the 20th century, focusing on the music of composers such as Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev, Scriabin and especially Rachmaninov. Lischke explains how these composers contributed to the revival of musical forms such as the sonata and the piano concerto during the transition from romanticism to modernism, when around the same time in Europe these forms were already considered obsolete and somewhat old-fashioned.

André Lischke is a translator, a musicologist and a specialist in Russian music. He is the author of Piotr Ilyitch Tchaïkovski (Fayard, 1992), of Tchaïkovski au miroir de ses écrits (Fayard, 1996; selection, translation and presentation of autobiographical writings and critics of the composer) and of Histoire de la musique russe des origines à la Révolution (Fayard, 2006).
