Debate: Can we talk about a "return" of religion?

There has been a lot of talk of the so-called “return” of religion. But is it really a return to the religious or rather a call on the religious? Some consider that our contemporary debates are saturated with religion; others deplore the fact that religion is not being called upon more often to provide meaning to citizens’ horizons. So the question is: is there too much or too little religion? Or are we simply witnessing a "reinvention" of religion in a time of globalization and post-modernism?
