Debate: What does "believe" - or not believe mean?

Religion in the city

Our Western societies live a curious paradox: never before, they have been this secularized and was the separation of church and state this big. However, religion is everywhere: in the press, during the public discussions, at the courts and tribunals, in books,... At the same time while whole communities are secularizing however, this secularization does not dissipate the connection individuals have with religion, the sacred, spirituality, morality and tradition. Is there a universality of "believe"? Is what we are currently undergoing a shift of the sacred? How can one believe or not believe immersed in a secularized society - and are there, at the same time, secular forms of spirituality?
