Kahlil Gibran's The Prophet

Festival Anima

On the island of Orphalese, Almitra, a little girl who does not speak, strikes up a friendship with Mustafa, a political prisoner under house arrest. One day, he is granted amnesty and escorted from the island to be deported back to his homeland. On the way to the port, he recites his poems to the inhabitants of Orphalese. Almitra, who has discreetly followed the convoy, represents these words in visually dazzling dream sequences. To illustrate each one of the poems, filmmaker Roger Allers (co-director of The Lion King) brought together under his leadership the cream of the animated art: Bill Plympton, Joan Gratz, Tomm Moore, Nina Paley, Joann Sfarr, among others, figure in the credits of this brilliant and lyrical feature. Adapted from the philosophical book The Prophet (1923) written by Lebanese poet Khalil Gibran.
