Where the sun sets…
Respighi’s Tramonto (« Sunset »), written almost a century ago, in 1918, shows a subtle use of the strings and colour-changes and their role toward the singing part, leading the audience into a deeply poetic world, not so different from the world evoked in the poem by P. B. Shelley. An absolute treasure of the repertoire which – unfortunately – rarely finds its way into today’s musical programmes.
